Does MobiNET still work during loadshedding?
Because MobiNET runs on the same network as our emergency services (2G), it will be the last to be affected by power cuts, where 5G and 4G will be the first to go offline.
That being said, we are highly dependent on MTN’s mobile towers (and their batteries) being in good working order. We are therefore working closely with MTN to monitor and improve their signal.
Unfortunately, in cases where tower batteries have been stolen, there is not much that can be done. However, with MTN’s signal triangulation, mobile devices hunt for the best signal between the three closest towers. This means that even if one tower nearby has no backup batteries due to theft, there should be one tower within the three closest that does.
When a customer/reseller reports coverage issues, we immediately log a ticket with MTN. MTN then creates a report within 24 hours and sends a technician to fix it.
We are also pro-actively collecting logs from our devices with regards to signal strength and are working hand-in-hand with MTN, using AI to predict potential tower problems. MTN immediately investigates and fixes these problems to prevent any future issues.
However, resellers do still need to ensure that their representatives check MTN’s signal strength in the areas they are selling MobiNET.
How does SIP integration work with MobiNET?
At MobiNET, we offer two seamless ways to integrate SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) into your communication systems. Whether you’re looking for a quick setup or a more comprehensive solution, we’ve got you covered:
- Shallow SIP Integration:
- If you’re already using a VOIP system, our shallow integration approach is hassle-free. We pre-program extensions onto your existing system, specifically for MobiNET extensions. When a call comes in, it diverts to your MobiNET number. The best part? No additional work is required on our end; your VOIP system manager handles it. Keep in mind that regular call charges still apply.
- Deep Integration:
- For a more robust solution, our deep integration option is ideal. Here’s how it works:
- Static IP Address: First, you’ll need a static IP address. This ensures a stable connection.
- Device Compatibility: Choose between fixed-line LTE or Yealink phones.
- MPBX License Provisioning: We provide an MPBX license as a SIP license, allowing you to seamlessly connect your devices.
- SIM Card and SIP Card Allocation: Once set up, we allocate a SIM card and a SIP card to your IP address.
- Your Line, Our Data: You supply your own line, and we can provide MTN data.
- Extension Flexibility: Using Yeastar, you can program other extensions to call as MobiNET extensions.
- VOIP Integration: And yes, our solution can also be seamlessly integrated into your existing VOIP setup.
- For a more robust solution, our deep integration option is ideal. Here’s how it works:
What happens when they shut down the 2G network?
When the 2G network eventually shuts down, rest assured that essential services won’t be left in the dark. Here’s how MobiNET ensures seamless connectivity:

- Even with the 2G network phased out, there will always be a prioritized voice channel reserved for critical communication. Emergency services rely on this channel, ensuring uninterrupted access during emergencies.
- MobiNET’s Unwavering Commitment:
- MobiNET is designed to operate over this dedicated voice channel consistently. Our commitment to reliability means that your communication needs remain met, regardless of network changes.

Will there ever be an iPhone version?
At this time, we regret to inform you that there won’t be an iPhone version of MobiNET. The decision is based on the security restrictions inherent to the iPhone platform. However, if you’re an iPhone user, you can still provision a SIM card to use with MobiNET. Keep in mind that you’ll need to familiarize yourself with the necessary hash codes.
Advanced Note: While it’s possible to enable no-hash dialing, please note that doing so would restrict certain functionalities, including transfers.
Custom CLIs: Can You Accommodate Them?
At MobiNET, we understand the importance of flexibility in communication systems. While we do not currently offer custom CLIs (Command Line Interfaces), we do have the ability to tailor our services to meet your specific needs.
Our focus is on providing a robust and user-friendly mobile PABX system that ensures seamless connectivity for your team. If you have any other questions or require further assistance, feel free to reach out. We’re here to help!
